On the afternoon of Saturday, December 26th, 2015, three individuals were killed when their SUV crashed into a tree. According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, 45-year-old Robert Myers’ Ford Bronco SUV was traveling through Baker County in northeast Florida when it began to swerve. The erratic movement of the SUV took the Bronco off the highway, where it then hit a pine tree and caused Myers and his three passengers to be thrown from the vehicle. After the vehicle crashed, the SUV caught fire.
Tragically, all three of Myers’ passengers were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Only two of these victims’ identities have been released: those of Pamella Myers, 48, and Michael Myers, 15 (the report did not specify whether these individuals were related to the driver, but it seems they may have been his wife and son). The third passenger’s identity was not immediately released while authorities notified the victim’s family.
Robert Myers himself managed to survive the incident, and was taken to a Jacksonville, Florida hospital for treatment of severe injuries. No updates have been provided as to his current state of health.
It is as of yet uncertain what caused Myers’ vehicle to begin moving erratically and leave the highway, and whether any alcohol, substance abuse or medical emergency played a role in the crash. As such, authorities have not been able to say whether Myers is accused of any wrongdoing or whether he will face any sort of charges for his part in the incident. Whatever the cause, Myers is undoubtedly feeling the grief, guilt and other emotional repercussions of his passengers’ deaths.
