A multi-vehicle auto accident that happened on Tuesday, October 2nd, left one person dead and several others with severe injuries. According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident, which happened inside of Orange County, took place roughly around 7:40 in the evening at the intersection of Sheringham Road and Silver Star Road.
Three cars were nearing this intersection at around the same time: a 2008 Pontiac, a 2000 GMC Truck, and a 2006 BMW. It is believed that the Pontiac and the GMC both reached the intersection first, and that it was as these two vehicles were attempting to make their way through the crossing that the collision began.
Reports are not fully clear on just which car reached the intersection first, and it is also not clear how exactly the cars collided. The wording of the FHP report makes it seem as though the driver of the Pontiac collided with the GMC as the GMC was attempting to turn off of Silver Star and onto Sheringham Road. It is not known if this crash happened because the driver of the Pontiac lost control of their vehicle, if they failed to yield to the GMC, or if there was some other factor that led these two cars to hit one another.
As a result of the collision with the Pontiac, the GMC was shoved off of its course and into the BMW. It is not known if the BMW was traveling behind the GMC or if it was in a different lane and going in a different direction altogether.
Inside of the Pontiac were at least two individuals. The passenger, a 22-year-old from Orlando, was not wearing a seatbelt. The collision caused this person to sustain severe injuries. Paramedics rushed them to Orlando Regional Medical Center, but there was nothing that the doctors and nurses could do for them and they were declared dead at the medical facility. The driver of the Pontiac, also a 22-year-old from Orlando, likewise sustained critical injuries in the accident. They were also taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center where they are currently receiving treatment.
The driver of the BMW sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident, but the GMC’s driver reportedly escaped from suffering from any injuries.
This incident remains under investigation.
