Members of the Florida Highway Patrol recently released most of the known facts relating to an incident that took place in Orange County on Tuesday, August 21st, and resulted in the death of a 52-year-old man. The report indicates that the auto accident happened around 5:45, and that it involved at least three vehicles that were traveling down Avalon Road and/or Schofield Road, close to or at the location where these roads intersect. This intersection is also near to the Orange County city of Winter Garden.
A 46-year-old from New Hampshire was behind the wheel of a 2018 Chrysler van that was headed northbound down Avalon Road. For reasons that are not entirely clear, close to the intersection of Avalon and Schofield, the woman’s car left the northern lane and entered the southbound lanes while still traveling north. It was as the car careened towards the oncoming traffic that the Chrysler struck a 2001 Nissan sedan head-on.
As a result of the crash, the Nissan flipped over, causing the driver, the above-mentioned 52-year-old individual, to suffer from severe injuries.
After striking the Nissan, the Chrysler van continued to move down the road. Its path ended after it collided with a Jeep SUV being driven by a 64-year-old. The driver of the Jeep reportedly only suffered from minor injuries as a result of the collision, while the 46-year-old driving the Chrysler was badly injured in the crash and was transported to Dr. Phillips Hospital.
The 52-year-old in the Nissan was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. This person suffered the brunt of the force from the collision, and there was not much that the medical staff could do in order to treat them. They were declared dead some time after arriving at the hospital, although the precise time of death was not included in the report.
Florida Highway Patrol members continue to investigate the incident and will release additional information as it becomes known. Currently, the FHP says that they have no evidence to suggest that alcohol played any role in the incident, and all three drivers are recorded as having been wearing seatbelts.
