Deputies with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office are on the lookout for an individual believed to be responsible for a hit-and-run involving a 17-year-old from Haines City. The official report from the authorities with Polk County indicates that the teenager was jogging around the area of Crest Lane shortly after 8:00 in the evening on Tuesday, April 4th, when a pickup truck initially described only as being “dark-colored” came through the area. The driver of the truck either lost control of the vehicle or never had it to begin with and collided with the jogging teen. Then the truck careened off of the roadway and through the lawn of a private residence located at 2614 Crest Lane, eventually coming to a stop after crashing mightily into a van parked in the home’s driveway.
Witnesses to the crash then say that the driver of the pickup opened the door, jumped out, and took off running down the street.
The initial investigation into the incident has produced an update to the preliminary report, and we know now that the truck involved was a Ford F-150, manufactured somewhere between 1997 and 2004. After colliding with the jogger and the car, the truck was somewhat damaged along its front, especially around the headlights.
The young man jogging was injured in the incident, although the facial fractures and sprained ankle are benign compared to what else could have happened due to the recklessness of the truck’s driver. He was taken by an ambulance to the Osceola Medical Center, and the report indicated that he was in stable condition at the time he was admitted.
Grady Judd, sheriff for Polk County, concluded his official statement by requesting anyone with any information regarding the incident to come forward and help the authorities level the appropriate charges against the individual who collided with the jogger and then so callously left them where they fell without any thought to their condition. At the time of this writing, the police search is still underway as authorities throughout Polk County work together to get the dangerous individual off of the streets and before a judge where they can begin to be held responsible for their actions.
