Early this past Sunday evening at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Disney World property in Orlando, a charter bus carrying tourists was involved in a head-on collision after an SUV failed to stop at a red light.
The bus accident occurred at an intersection on Osceola Parkway near Buena Vista Drive, an on-property area that is known for its busy traffic due to the close proximity of Blizzard Beach water park and Disney’s All-Star resort. The bus was in the process of transporting guests between the two destinations when Ritesh Bhagani, 34, of Winter Garden, ran a red light while driving his black SUV and crashed into the bus head-on. The impact of the collision was so great that it shattered the entire front windshield of the bus.
Emergency medical teams were dispatched to the scene where the driver of the bus, Collins Yakep, 47, of Orlando, had sustained serious injuries in the accident. He was then transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he remains in serious condition. Two other passengers on the Disney bus were treated for minor injuries. Additionally, Mr. Bhagani and an unknown female passenger, who was also in the SUV at the time of the crash, were treated for minor injuries. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the investigation into this accident is ongoing and charges are pending.
