MADD and Florida Personal Injury Lawyers Push New DUI Law
Tired of the number of drunk drivers on Florida’s streets and highways, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and many Florida personal injury attorneys are rallying support for a proposed piece of legislation which would target drunk drivers. The legislation would require that ignition interlock devices be installed in the vehicles of all first-time convicted drunk drivers. This is very encouraging and certainly a step in the right direction. However, drunk driving statistics indicate that on average, a drunk driver while drink and drive 87 times before they are arrested for DUI. Read the rest »
Growing Number of Bicyclists Increase Traffic Hazards
Many people are trying to improve their health and take advantage of our state’s wonderful weather at the same time by riding their bicycles. Seeing bicycling clubs out for a ride together on streets and highways is a very common sight in and around the Orlando area and other parts of the state. But this Orlando Sentinel article reports that not all Floridians are thrilled with the growing number of riders on the roads. The article cites the experiences of one Clermont man who is a security guard who often sees large packs of bicyclists on his way to work each day.

Man Killed By Flying Truck in Florida Auto Accident
The nwfDailyNews reports that a 60-year-old Navarre man died from injuries he received when his car was struck by an airborne pickup truck. The Florida auto accident occurred on U.S. Highway 98 close to the intersection with South Circle Westbound.

Vehicle Involved in Fatal Florida Auto Accident was Stolen
A New Smyrna teenager, who caused a fatal State Road 44 auto accident, was driving a stolen truck and fleeing police when he struck an SUV and killed the driver—a father of two. DeLand police said that the 19-year-old suspect was driving the stolen truck east on S.R. 44 when he drifted into the westbound lanes and into the path of the 40-year-old father who was westbound near the intersection with Summit Avenue.

Woman Killed in Calhoun County Auto Accident
The jcfloridan.com reports that a Calhoun County auto accident claimed the life of an elderly Marianna woman and sent two men to a local hospital with serious injuries. Florida Highway Patrol accident investigators say that the 81-year-old woman was taken to Calhoun-Liberty Hospital after the accident where she was pronounced dead from her injuries. They say she was driving a 1999 Dodge car northbound on County Road 275 when she failed to observe a stop sign, and violated the right of way of a southbound 1995 Toyota pickup truck on State Road 71. Trucking Accident Closes One Lane of Interstate 275
This article from ABC Action News reports that one lane of Interstate 275 had to be closed for more than a day after a cement truck overturned and spilled cement all over the roadway. The Florida trucking accident occurred near the Pinellas Bayway and left a hole in the on-ramp to Interstate 275 from the Pinellas Bayway that was 28 feet long, 6 feet wide, and 8 inches deep.

US Secretary of Transportation Retracts Toyota Statement
This article published in the New York Times recently reports that Ray LaHood, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation, has retracted a statement that he made recently regarding Toyota automobiles and the company’s massive recall of many models. The statement that caused LaHood to issue his clarification was one that he made recently, telling Toyota owners to “stop driving it, take it to a Toyota dealer because they believe they have a fix for it.”
